Google Translate gets smarter with language detection, Word Lens

Star Trek's universal translator is here, and it's on your phone. Google is updating its Translate app on Wednesday, and, as rumored, the new version includes automatic language detection in conversation mode, so having a conversation between two people who don't speak the same language is actually possible.

Once you've selected the two languages being spoken, Google Translate can now tell which one is being spoken at any moment. With no need to manually toggle them, conversations can be more natural.

The iOS 8.2 beta confirmed that the Apple Watch is — unsurprisingly — getting a specific app, but a new leak purports to show just how the iPhone will manage the device.

9to5Mac got access to the companion app and published screenshots from the interface.

Controlling your computer with an iPhone just got a lot easier

Google launched an iOS version of its Chrome Remote Desktop app Monday, which allows users to access their computers from their iPhone.

Sign in with your Google account (you can also switch between multiple accounts if you have more than one) to see the computers you're able to access. Like the Android app, the iOS version of the app requires the accompanying Chrome extension to be installed on the desktop version of the browser.

Je Suis Charlie app quickly hits App Store after email to Tim Cook

A Je Suis Charlie iPhone app rolled out to the App Store Sunday, after its creators personally emailed Tim Cook to ask for a prompt App Store approval.

Apple is somewhat notorious among developers for its often lengthy App Store approval process, which typically takes about 10 to 15 days on average. But Apple reportedly helped get the Je Suis Charlie app bumped to the front of the approval line after its developers contacted the CEO of the Silicon Valley tech giant.

According to a report in local outlet Nice-Matin, one of Cook's assistants responded a mere ten minutes after the initial email was sent and the app was live in the App Store soon thereafter. ...
