Yik Yak fixed security flaw that exposes ‘anonymous’ users

It seems Yik Yak, the popular anonymous messenging app, wasn't quite as anonymous as some people thought.

The company didn't encrypt a "seemingly innocuous" aspect of the app, according to SilverSky Research Labs. That allowed hackers to easily take over other accounts — not only seeing users' previous posts, but creating new ones.

Luckily, there's a fix. SilverSky notes that it told Yik Yak about the problem on Dec. 2, and the developers were quick to address the issue. All users have to do to apply the patch is update the app ...

Apple names its top apps of 2014; Uber makes the cut

It's a good day for Elevate, which was just named Apple's favorite app of 2014.

The app, which helps you improve memory and focus, was Apple's top pick of the year. The runner-up was Instagram's Hyperlapse, which speeds up shaky videos and turns them into time lapses in just two taps.

Apple compiled its annual list of what it considers to be the year's most standout apps, with categories ranging from "best apps" to "best games."

Ralph Baer, father of video games, dies at age 92

Ralph Baer, one of the true pioneers in the world of video games, has passed away at age 92. Baer was frequently known as "The Father of Video Games" for his early role in the development of the video game console.

Baer first explored the idea of playing games on a television screen in 1966. He finished his prototype for what would become the very first video game console, then dubbed the Brown Box, in 1968. In 1972, the Brown Box technology was used to unveil the Magnavox Odyssey, the world's first commercial video game console.

Indian police arrest Uber driver accused of rape

NEW DELHI — Indian police on Sunday arrested a driver from ride-sharing service Uber for allegedly raping a young woman in the capital.

Shiv Kumar Yadav, 32, was arrested in his hometown of Mathura, about 160 kilometers (100 miles) south of New Delhi, where the rape allegedly took place Friday, police officer Jag Niwas said.

The woman, who works at a finance company, was returning from a dinner engagement Friday night and used the mobile app Uber to hire a cab to drive her home, according to New Delhi police officer Alma Ming.
