Got an old Nook? Trade it in at Barnes & Noble for tablet discounts

Barnes & Noble is offering a $30 discount on its latest a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 Nook to some customers who trade in their old Nooks.

Through Jan. 17 of next year, the retailer will accept used models of the Nook 1st Edition, Nook Color and Nook Tablet for store credit. If the devices work, Barnes & Noble will take them. There is not a cash trade-in option, however. Barnes & Noble club members will get an additional 10% off.

Pandora redesigns apps to emphasize customization

Pandora stations are about to get easier to customize.

The company previewed an upcoming update to its iOS and Android app Tuesday that will give users more ways to personalize the music in their radio stations.

The update, which is still in beta, is focused on improving the way users can personalize stations. The now playing menu will include a new personalization icon that allows users to more easily surface station details, including a history of songs they've given the thumbs up or thumbs down, and which songs or artists the station is based on. Sony Pictures leak shows employees used worst passwords ever

Everyone is bad at passwords; that's nothing new. But if you're working at a high-profile studio like Sony, perhaps you should choose a better password than "s0ny123" or "password."

Days after the massive hack against Sony, a group of hackers calling themselves "GOP"(Guardian of Peace) dumped online a trove of files that appear to be from the internal computers of Sony Pictures Entertainment. The files contain all sorts of information, such as sales reports, syndication agreements, and employees' salaries

Among the hacked trove is also a folder called, simply, "passwords." And just like you'd expect, inside the folder there's a file called "passwords.doc" dated March 2, 2011, which contains what looks like a list of employee usernames, passwords, and even credit card numbers ...

Apple iPod lawsuit will reveal unseen Steve Jobs video

The voice of the visionary behind much of the success of Apple, the late Steve Jobs, will be heard once again thanks to a videotaped deposition set to be entered into evidence in a decade-old class action lawsuit

A case filed back in 2005 asserts that Apple's proprietary software for the iPod allowed the company to shut out rival digital music download services — forcing users to buy higher-priced iPods over competing music players and locking users into the iTunes ecosystem.
